There are gestures that show that a united people is the best possible safety net. At El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, the affection and gratitude of the neighbours towards the local Civil Protection group continues to become a chain of solidarity. The local group has since this week new technical material thanks to a donation from the local dance group Pam’s Dance Fitness Ladies.
The new donation, valued at 200 euros, consists of two special uniforms for the felling of pine trees: a complete jumpsuit and pants. These are advanced safety garments, designed specifically for the use of chainsaws. This technical clothing incorporates inner layers of high-strength fibers that, in the event of accidental contact with the moving chain of the machine, instantly fray to become entangled in the drive sprocket. This locks and slows down the chainsaw in fractions of a second, preventing serious injury on the operator.
This material will be very useful. In case of emergency or danger, Civil Protection volunteers carry out occasional work to clean pine forests accumulated after the severe drought two years ago. With these anti-cut suits, the team will be able to safely remove trees that are at risk of falling on roads, in addition to cleaning areas of pine forests to prevent the risk of wildfires.
In addition to the forest clothing, the dance group has delivered a defibrillator simulator. This technical device will be used for the continuous training of the group, allowing volunteers to perform practical exercises identical to real emergency situations to perfect their cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques in a totally safe way.
This contribution is in addition to a list of recurring collaborations from neighbourhood that help improve the resources of volunteers, such as the vest for the Heimlich maneuver previously delivered by this same group, the evacuation chair of the neighbours Hermann and Angelika, the emergency screens of Teulada Moraira Lions Club, or the motor pump of the International Neighbourhood Association of Benitachell (AVIB). among others.
As the Councillor of Citizens’ Security, María José Ivars, has highlighted, «the support that Civil Protection receives from the local associative fabric is essential. These contributions not only improve their resources, but also show that the municipality greatly values their dedication.»
For his part, the head of the group, Arturo Esteve, greatly appreciated the gesture: «For us, working with maximum safety is essential. These anti-cut uniforms and the simulator allow us to carry out forest prevention tasks and training with excellent technical guarantees».
