The free bus service to Moraig Cove begins its season on July 1st

  • The Council reactivates this circular service, which will run daily until August 31st to connect the town centre, the residential estates and the beach
  • The shuttle will operate on scheduled routes in the morning and afternoon, as well as running continuous services every 20 minutes to negotiate the slope down to the cove

Once again, this summer, getting to Moraig Cove will be convenient, free and sustainable. On July 1st, the Council of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell is relaunching the free shuttle bus service, which will run daily until August 31st to transport beachgoers to Moraig Cove.

As was the case last summer, the bus will follow its circular route with several strategic stops. Departures from the town centre will take place every morning at 10.00 am in front of the cemetery, with stops at the car park opposite Masymas, the Lady Elizabeth School car park and Pepe la Sal supermarket, before reaching the cove.

The return journey will take place at 2 pm, following the same route in reverse. Following this journey, the service will be suspended between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm whilst the driver takes a break. In the afternoon, the bus will leave the town centre again at 4 pm and make its final return journey from the beach at 6.30 pm.

To extend the service to both local residents and tourists, an additional journey will run through the Cumbre del Sol urbanisation at noon. This route will depart from Moraig Cove and stop at Lady Elizabeth School and Pepe la Sal before returning immediately to the beach.

Furthermore, to ease the strain caused by the steep slope leading down to the cove, the bus will run continuously at approximately 20-minute intervals, transporting passengers from the upper car park right down to the beach. This service will operate throughout the day, except when the bus is on its scheduled routes to the town centre or Cumbre del Sol, and during the break from 2 pm to 4 pm. This measure is designed to prevent beachgoers from having to carry sunbeds and cool boxes in the high summer temperatures.

With the launch of this shuttle service, the council is pursuing a threefold objective: to reduce traffic congestion in the coastal area, to provide an environmentally friendly and free alternative to the bay’s pay-and-display car park, and, at the same time, to boost commercial and hospitality activity in the town centre by encouraging tourists to visit the municipality.
