Benitatxell promotes agricultural training for the third year in a row to consolidate the future of the 'broad bean poblera'

  • The third edition of the free workshop will start in October in the municipal orchards of l’Abiar and will include as a novelty learning about other seasonal crops

The Council of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell is once again committed to practical and traditional agricultural training with the third edition of the course ‘The cultivation of broad beans and seasonal plants’. This initiative seeks to promote the cultivation of the fava poblera, the star product of local gastronomy that even has its own emblematic festival, the Mitjafava Fest, to ensure its continuity and generational transmission. As a novelty in this 2026/2027 edition, the programme broadens its perspective by introducing content dedicated to other seasonal crops.

The training activity, organised with the support of the Alicante Provincial Council and the Generalitat Valenciana, will take place mainly in the municipal gardens of l’Abiar in the afternoon (from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., except for the last session).

The Councillor of Agriculture, Javi Cabrera, has stressed the importance of giving continuity to this initiative. «As villagers, we have almost the obligation to take care of the traditions that our parents and grandparents passed on to us. We cannot allow our identity to be lost, and the ‘fava poblera’ is a fundamental part of it. This course is a key tool to pass on that knowledge to the new generations».

Cabrera, who participated in the last edition, underlined the value of combining tradition and innovation. «We combine the wisdom of our elders with new techniques of organic and sustainable agriculture. In addition, this year we are extending the training to other garden products so that participants learn to value the land and the enormous dedication behind each crop.»
