The Council of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell hosted yesterday Thursday the celebration of the Local Security Board, an ordinary meeting co-chaired by the subdelegate of the Government in Alicante, Manuel Pineda Cuenca, and the mayor of the municipality, Miguel Ángel García. The meeting served to globally analyse the situation of citizens’ security, coordinate the next special devices of the patron saint festivities and, very importantly, ratify the institutional mechanisms for the fight against violence against women.
The central point of the day was the formal approval of the Protocol of Collaboration and Coordination between the Main Post of the Civil Guard and the Local Police of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell in the field of violence against women. Although this document has now been made official, both security forces had already been applying these guidelines effectively on a day-to-day basis. The attendees agreed to point out the excellent harmony and the perfect mechanism between the local body and the Benemérita when it comes to protect victims and monitoring active cases in town through VioGen system.
The event was also attended by Eva Montesinos, head of the Unit Against Violence against Women of Alicante, who provided the technical and strategic vision in this matter. In this context, she emphasized the Violet Point that will be strategically installed during the next patron saint festivities in honor of Santa María Magdalena, conceived as a safe space for information, prevention and care. Likewise, the various citizen awareness activities framed within the State Pact against Violence against women and financed by the Government Delegation were valued.
In the general balance of citizens’ security, the Board noted a positive trend. The crime rates in the municipality continue their downward path compared to the previous year, being notably below the provincial average of Alicante. Along with the reduction in crimes, the police commanders underlined the optimal rate of clarification of crimes. In this regard, it was highlighted that the traffic control cameras implemented on the main access and exit roads of the town centre have been a key technological tool for the resolution of a large part of criminal acts.
The Government sub-delegate expressly congratulated the council and all the security forces for the climate of understanding and the good results achieved, extending recognition to the meticulous planning of the operations for the festivities, which will take place from July 19th to August 1st. The authorities stressed the special deployment designed for the Day of the Quintadas, a day in which a massive influx of public is expected and where prevention will be a priority.
For his part, the mayor of the municipality, Miguel Ángel García, was very grateful for the involvement and daily effort of the agents in the municipality: «We are very proud, because we see the great work they do day by day. People are not aware. I wish all citizens had the opportunity to see up close what public service entails. Only in this way can the indispensable work of the security forces and, especially in our municipality, that of our Local Police be appreciated in its proper measure».
Institutional participation and representation
The meeting was attended by a large representation of the different administrations and security forces. In addition to the mayor, the sub-delegate and the Councilor of Citizens‘ Security, María José Ivars, were present, on behalf of the Civil Guard, the chief colonel of the Alicante Command, the chief commander of Calpe and the lieutenant commander of the Main Post of Xàbia.
Representing the National Police Corps were the chief inspector and the deputy inspector of Dénia Foreigners Brigade. The Regional Police was represented by the operational chief inspector and a sub-inspector, while the Chief Officer participated for the Local Police together with the agents that make up the Llorença Group, the unit specialized in violence against women in town.
