Moraig cove has been the scenery of a spectacular security deployment this Tuesday. As it is tradition at the beginning of the summer season, the municipality has coordinated a large emergency drill with the intention of optimising action protocols, testing response times and guaranteeing perfect coordination between all the security and rescue forces operating on the coast.
The exercise, which has mobilised numerous troops by land, sea and air, is also one of the essential requirements to maintain the distinction of the Blue Flag, a certification of the excellence and safety of the Moraig cove.
A cinema rescue at the Moraig fault
The most spectacular moment of the day took place on the imposing vertical wall of the Moraig fault. In a highly complex manoeuvre, two firefighters have rappled down the vertiginous cliff to rescue one of the fictitious victims. Demonstrating formidable expertise, the troops have managed to stabilise the injured man and hoist him with ropes to the top of the fault.
Once safely on the edge of the summit, the rescue helicopter took a fixed position on the cliff and, from the air, another firefighter descended suspended on a rope to secure the victim and evacuate him to the helicopter in an impeccable aerial manoeuvre.
«Coordination in scenarios as abrupt and complicated as those of our municipality is vital. Seeing these professionals work against the clock and in such complicated situations shows that we are in the best possible hands,» said the Councillor of Citizens’ Security, María José Ivars.
In addition to the vertical rescue, the exercise has contemplated a second hypothesis: the rescue of another victim in the water. In this case, the affected person has been rescued in the first instance by sea by a rescue boat, to later be transferred to the helicopter, simulating an emergency medical evacuation.
The success of the drill has been possible thanks to the total involvement and synchronisation of a wide range of security and emergency forces: the Firefighters of Dénia park and the Rescue Group of Sant Vicent del Raspeig with its helicopter; Local Police and Civil Protection of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell; Maritime Rescue; the neighbourly support of the Local Police of Xàbia with its rescue boat and SVS, the concessionaire company of the rescue and surveillance service of Moraig cove.
Precisely, it should be remembered that yesterday, Monday, June 15th, the SVS maritime rescue service officially started on the beach, which will be operational daily until September 15th to ensure the safety of all bathers during the summer.
