The broad bean in town, a true culinary emblem of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, is once again taking over the tables of the municipality. As a central part of the Mitjafava Fest programme, the Council presents a new edition of its long-awaited Broad Bean Gastronomic Days, a unique opportunity to taste the most authentic recipe book of La Marina Alta.
The main protagonist of these menus will be rice with peeled beans. This dish, with a creamy character and a thick texture thanks to the starch of the legume, that is made following the traditional method: using dried and peeled beans. It is a gastronomic jewel that survives in very few parts of the region, such as Xàbia, Jesús Pobre and, of course, El Poble Nou de Benitatxell.
This recipe evokes the agricultural past of the municipality, when farmers cooked rice at noon and reserved a portion for the night, after long days in the countryside, in what was popularly known as «recapte» food.
For this edition, three local establishments will offer special menus where this dish will be the star. Due to the high demand and to guarantee the best service, it is essential to make a reservation in advance by contacting the restaurants directly: Thursday April 16th at Restaurante La Cumbre (Telephone for reservations: 966 49 32 13); Friday April 17th at Ca Toni Mònica (966 49 36 36) and Saturday April 18th at the Trillaora Bar (647 60 67 84).
