Benitatxell commemorates the 10th anniversary of 'La Mascota Contacontes (The Storytelling Mascot)' in the celebration of Book Day

  • The Council publishes a special book with the stories of this edition and the winners of the last decade to commemorate the anniversary
  • The day will be completed this afternoon with the presentation of Elvira Cambrils’ latest novel at the Municipal Library

Coinciding with the celebration of Book Day, CEIP Santa Maria Magdalena today hosted the awards ceremony of the X La Mascota Contacontes Contest. This edition is especially significant for the municipality, since the contest celebrates a decade promoting literary creation and the use of imagination among the students of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell.

In an event full of emotion, the winners of this edition have received their recognitions and have shared their imagination reading the stories to their colleagues. The awards ceremony was in charge of the Counclilor of Culture, Jorge Pascual, and the municipal librarian, Lola Bolufer. This year’s list of winners was as follows:

  • 1st Prize: The magic box of Terry and Pau, by Adrián Aranda Roda.
  • 2nd Prize: Some Magic Stuffed Animals, by Leire Ferràndiz Ferrer.
  • 3rd Prize: Lola saves the library, by Serena Melody Accorsi.

A special edition: 10 years of stories

To commemorate the tenth anniversary of the contest, the Council has carried out a very special initiative: the edition of a commemorative book. This volume collects all the stories presented in the current edition and, in addition, makes a historical tour including the winning stories of the youth modality (between 10 and 15 years old) of the previous editions.

During the event, a copy of the book was given to all this year’s participants and the winners. Likewise, two copies have been donated to the library of the educational centre so that they become part of the literary legacy of the school.

The main objective of the Storytelling Mascot Contest is to promote and encourage local literary production. The rules require that the texts be original and the result of the imagination of the author, with the particularity that the protagonists must be the Mascots of the Library and the plot must take place within the municipality of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell.

«Reaching the tenth edition of La Mascota Contacontes shows that our municipality has incredible young talent and a desire to tell stories that do not stop growing. With the edition of this 10th anniversary book we not only reward this year’s winners, but we also leave testimony of a whole decade of creativity at El Poble Nou de Benitatxell. It is the best way to celebrate the Book Day: giving voice and prominence to our future writers,» said the Councillor of Culture, Jorge Pascual.

Literary afternoon with Elvira Cambrils

The celebration of the Book Day is not finished through the morning. The Department of Culture has scheduled for this afternoon, at the Municipal Library, the presentation of the novel ‘Aire’, by the renowned writer Elvira Cambrils. The literary meeting will be enriched with the musical accompaniment of Vega García, offering a complete cultural experience for the neighbours.
