The patron saint festivities in honour of Santa María Magdalena of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell will experience an unprecedented and most powerful day this year. Next Thursday, July 23rd, the day of San Roque, the municipality will celebrate for the first time in its history the ‘Day of the Penyes’, a commitment of the Councillorship of Festivities to promote the siblinghood and the fabric of local clubs. And to crown this important date, the highlight of the night will be the concert of Ginestà, one of the most consolidated and successful groups on the current musical scene in Catalonia, the Valencian Country and the Balearic Islands.
The concert will take place at 00:00 hours at the parking lot of València avenue with free admission. The siblings Júlia and Pau Serrasolsas, born in the Barcelona neighbourhood of Sant Andreu de Palomar, arrive at El Poble Nou de Benitatxell at a sweet moment in their careers. After revolutionising the scene with hits such as «Estimar-te com la terra», «Kilòmetre 3» or the popular «l’Eva i la Jana», and consolidating with the acclaimed album «VIDAMEVA», the band is now presenting their new EP, «Només viure». It is their freshest, most cheerful and optimistic work, an ideal repertoire for a night out.
On stage, the siblings will be accompanied by their usual band: Andrea Puig, Gerard Sala and producer Cesc Valverde (Xicu). The night will not end there, since immediately after Ginestà’s performance, the party will continue with the well-known DJ Nonai Sound, who will keep the rhythm of the night until the early hours of the morning.
Beyond the great evening concert, Thursday, July 23rd will be full of activities from early in the morning to celebrate this first edition dedicated to the peñas. The day will start at 08:00 a.m. with the awakening of the festeros and festeras, followed at 11:00 a.m. by the collection of the festeras with the animation of the brass band. After the solemn mass in honour of Sant Roc at 12:00 p.m., the party will move to the street with the festeros and the peñas as a preamble to the most awaited moment of the neighbourhood siblinghood: the lunch of peñas at 2:00 p.m. at La Pau and Mayor streets. In this space the fideuá and allioli contest of own elaboration will be held with prizes of 100 and 60 euros.
The programming of this special day will resume in the afternoon with very playful and fun suggestions for all audiences. At 4:45 p.m. it will be the turn of the crazy car race on Mayor street, an event that will distribute prizes of 120 and 60 euros to imagination and speed. Then, at 5:30 p.m., La Pau street will host the musical performance of La Mocha, which will be accompanied by the Jagger Olympics organised by the Peña ‘Ja Vorem’, a perfect combination of music and laughter that will serve to warm up for the great musical evening of the night.
