The Local Police of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell celebrated last weekend the feast of its patron saint, the Holy Guardian Angels, in a day of homage and balance of the work carried out over the last year. The institutional event also served to officially present the new drone unit acquired by the Council, a technological tool that will significantly reinforce the tasks of searching for missing persons, rescues in areas of difficult access and coordination in emergency situations.
During the celebration, a tribute was also paid to the career, dedication and commitment of different members of the body. Specifically, the distinctions for 15 and 20 years of service in the Local Police were presented to agents José Luis Esteve, Gabriel Vidilla, Raúl Andrés Estalrich and Raúl Tarrero.
The event was also attended by Vicent Bolufer, founding member of Civil Protection, to whom the head of the Local Police, José Vicente García, conveyed a public message of encouragement as he recovers from the serious traffic accident he suffered a few months back. «Seeing you here is one of the greatest joys you could give us. We hope that your recovery continues at a good pace and that we will have you by our side in the next events,» said García.

The head of the Local Police highlighted the commitment of the force and the support received from the Council and citizens. «Since the beginning of the year we have opened about 3,900 actions due to citizen demand, requests for assistance, collaboration or information for incidents. After two years as chief coordinator of this police, I would like to ask that we all be as proud of the work, effort and dedication of each of my colleagues as I am of them». He also thanked the support of the Mayor’s Office and the Councillorship of Security «for making the effort for our police to grow in human resources and material resources», and valued the patience and unconditional support of the families of the agents, «one of the most important pillars that make us continue to grow as police officers and as people».
The Councillor of Citizens’ Security, María José Ivars, valued the nearly 4,000 interventions carried out by the Local Police during the year, thanking the tireless work and the constant presence of the agents on the street. Ivars highlighted «the honour» of working side by side with the body: «I feel very proud of your work and I hope that the drones make it a little easier for you. If this town is so quiet and safe it is because you are always there for everyone. Always alert, taking care of all of us without us noticing.»
For his part, the mayor, Miguel Ángel García, expressed his gratitude to the staff at a particularly significant moment. «I always say it: when we are all at home, in the different complicated moments that we have encountered in these two legislatures that we have been together, you are on the street giving your all and dealing with all the complications that arise. Thank you for everything you do. Keep it up, please, because you leave El Poble Nou at the status it deserves,» he said.
The mayor also took stock of the profound transformation of the municipality, recalling how activity has changed in recent years: «I remember when we entered that the winters were not so intense, there was a lot of seasonality. But, after COVID and over the years, the town has been transformed and that translates into the number of cases and incidents attended by the police». In this sense, he stressed that El Poble Nou de Benitatxell has become a very different municipality and that «this evolution is supported by the police, and it is doing so with flying colours».
