The CCouncil of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, through the Councillorship of Citizens’ Security, continues taking firm steps in its prevention and urban safety strategy. With the intention of ensuring that the population is perfectly prepared and knows how to take action in a situation of extreme risk or catastrophe, the council has recently completed the installation of identifying posters at the five strategic meeting points of the municipality.
This measure complements the information campaigns and sectorised brochures that were distributed last October as a result of the experience of the electricity blackout in April. The new panels allow residents to quickly, visually and in person locate the exact place where they should go in case of emergency or loss of communications, depending on the urbanisation in which they live.
Information reinforcement in the ‘Espacio Amigos‘
In parallel to the improvement of physical signalling, the Council keeps being committed to the continuous training of citizens. In this context, yesterday, Thursday, the head of Civil Protection of the municipality, Arturo Esteve, gave an informative talk at the ‘Espacio Amigos’.
During the session, Esteve went over in detail the essential protocols on how to act before, during and after an emergency, resolving doubts and reminding us of the importance of staying calm and always following the guidelines of the security forces.

The choice of the place was not accidental. ‘Espacio Amigos‘ is an initiative of two neighbours, Margaret Hales and Trudi Van Dorp, whose goal is to promote a meeting point, debate and workshops. An environment designed to socialise, cope with loneliness and weave community ties that, precisely in situations of vulnerability or disaster, are key to activate networks of mutual support and neighbourhood kindness.
The Councillor of Citizens Security, María José Ivars, has highlighted the importance of combining training with physical signalling in the street. «With the installation of these new posters we take a crucial step. We no longer only explain on paper where the meeting points are, but we make them visible on the ground itself so that any neighbour can locate them quickly and instinctively in a moment of tension.»
Ivars has also valued the continuous work of the council and its security forces. «Security is a daily effort. After the experience of the blackout last year, today we show that, thanks to the involvement of Civil Protection, the Local Police and the residents, El Poble Nou de Benitatxell is a much stronger, coordinated and prepared municipality for any adversity».
Finally, the Council recalls that all the detailed information and plans of the five meeting points are still available for consultation on the municipal website: https://links.benitatxell.es/plan-emergencias
