  • Alejandro Guirado has announced the mayor’s decree that residents will have to comply with next Saturday on the festive day of costumes

San Pancracio is one of the most fun and deeply-rooted celebrations in the municipality since it was implemented by ‘La cuadrilla del Sarmiento’. As tradition dictates, the municipality has already appointed its mayor for a day: Alejandro Guirado. From the balcony of the Town Hall he announced this Monday his first mayoral decree for next Saturday, May 9th on the festive day of costumes: to wear a yellow garment.

The weekend has been full of festive and religious events of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell. Last Friday the festivities began with a day for all ages, with storytelling, barbecue, singing cartons and afternoon with DJ. Last Saturday, dozens of people in town participated in the colorful floral offering to the Virgin of the Rose. Children and adults went to the Church to offer to the virgin with their floral bouquets accompanied by the Music Band and Colla La Llebetjà. Meanwhile, Grup de Danses Morro Falquí offered a sample of traditional dances together with Colla La Llebetjà at the beginning, in front of the Oratory, and once they arrived at Church Square. In the evening, there was dancing with Gravity orchestra on Valencia avenue.

The celebration of the religious events in honour of the Virgin of the Rose continued yesterday Sunday with the blessing and subsequent distribution throughout the town of 120 ‘pans beneïts’, a tradition of the most deeply rooted and unique of the municipality in which festeros, festeras, boys and girls of the municipality participate walking the streets with baskets of blessed bread. Accompanied by the Music Band and the Colla La Llebetjà, the procession distributed pieces of bread to the neighbours who were waiting for them in the doorways with an empty plate. In the afternoon there was a procession, a display of fireworks and music in the festive house.

The festivities continue this Monday on La Pau street with races that always leave funny pictures, giant paella and ball with Toni Catalá, as well as bullfighting celebrations at the parking lot of Valencia avenue that will continue throughout the rest of the week.
