All Saints' Day at Benitatxell: special opening hours at the cemetery, live music and activities for children

  • The municipal cemetery will be open for extended hours on October 30th and 31st and November 1st, and there will be atmospheric music to watch over the deceased on the 1st
  • Activities have been planned for children, such as the storytelling session “Espanta la por” (Scare Away Fear), the sensory activity “Un sombrero para la noche” (A Hat for the Night) and the costume parade and haunted house

The Council of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell is finishing the details to ensure that the municipal cemetery is ready to welcome All Saints’ Day. The main improvement this year is the demolition and reconstruction of a module of niches in the new northern section, which has been carried out thanks to the Alicante Provincial Council’s Plan +Cerca 2022. The work was carried out between January and May by the company Vías y Obras Aitana with a tender budget of €120,258.34.

In addition, over the last few days, the municipal services have been carrying out maintenance, painting and gardening work both inside and outside the cemetery. On October 30th and 31st and November 1st, the venue will have extended opening hours from 7.30 am to 8 pm. As every year, police measures will be put in place on the busiest days to regulate traffic, provide surveillance and information. Speed limits will also be imposed and the number of parking spaces for people with reduced mobility will be increased.

Terrifying activities for children

The youngest members of the family will have their own space in the celebration of this festivity with various activities. The most terrifying stories will arrive at the Municipal Library with “Espanta la por (Scare away fear)” on Wednesday October 29th. At 6 p.m. there will be a session of scary stories for children, and at 8 p.m. it will be the turn of young people and adults. Anyone interested in telling a story can get in touch with joventut@elpoblenoudebenitatxell.com.

On Thursday October 30th, at 6 pm, the Library will host the activity “Un sombrero para la noche” (A Hat for the Night), a sensory stimulation experience with black light to discover the secrets of the night. Registrations can be made by emailing biblioteca@elpoblenoudebenitatxell.com or via WhatsApp on 628 436 159.

To round off the children’s events for All Saints’ Day, on Friday October 31st, the Night of Souls will be celebrated with a costume parade accompanied by the Music School Band, followed by a tunnel of terror, entertainment and inflatables at Llebeig Street. The parade will start at the Town Hall.

Music for All Saints’ Day

After the successful experience of recent years, in which residents have warmly welcomed the musical atmosphere in the cemetery, the initiative will be repeated this year. On November 1st, All Saints’ Day, the violin duo Lucia Cholbi and Raúl Capella, from l’Aljub Music, will play live music from 11:30 a.m. to commemorate this solemn celebration for all the deceased.
