The work of Civil Protection is well known and valued by all the residents of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell. The organisation has been active since December 2009 and has become increasingly indispensable with each passing year. Year after year, its involvement and dedication grow, and the volunteers continue to make giant strides together in the fight against fire and other emergencies.
The 2025 campaign has been very successful. After two and a half months of uninterrupted forest surveillance to keep the entire municipality of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell safe from fire, the local Civil Protection group has ended the summer with excellent results. Thanks to the financial support of the Generalitat’s Previfoc campaign, which provided a total of €6,392.62, since they began their work last July 1st, the 27 volunteers who make up the group have devoted 1,100 hours and driven 6,102 km in their vehicles during their patrols.
They have carried out 138 days of uninterrupted surveillance throughout this period, increasing the number of personnel compared to other summers, with morning and afternoon shifts made up of three or four volunteers, reinforced on days with a level 3 of fire risk. The main lookout point has been Puig de la Llorença, although they have also monitored from different viewpoints in town. They also highlighted the good relationship with volunteers from neighbouring municipalities, with whom they have been in constant contact.
As for other interventions, it is worth noting several fires, such as a vehicle on the Panorama road (Cumbre del Sol), a house in Calistros area and an attempted fire in a construction container in Adelfas. They have also participated in eight rescues in the coastal area, 17 medical assists alongside the Local Police and emergency teams, ten assists in traffic accidents alongside the Local Police and eleven in vehicles. They have also carried out an internal practical exercise to refresh fire response protocols.
The Councillor of Citizens’ Security, María José Ivars, highlighted the great work carried out by volunteers year after year. ‘Their selfless dedication, taking time out of their private lives to keep our municipality safe, is priceless. They are always there when needed for any type of emergency,’ said the councillor, who emphasised the quick response they always provide.
