Benitatxell sets up two speed cameras to reduce speeding

  • The Council has implemented these devices on Alicante Avenue and on the main road to Cumbre del Sol, near Adelfas shopping centre

With the intention of calming the speed of vehicles on stretches of street in urban areas where driving may be reckless, El Poble Nou de Benitatxell Council has set up two radars.

One of them, the cabin type which can be mobile so that it can be used in other locations, has been placed on Alicante Avenue, a road in the town centre where pedestrians have priority and it is essential that vehicles drive at a reduced speed. The second, a fixed section speed camera, has been placed on the main road of Cumbre del Sol, near Adelfas shopping centre, a long main road where vehicles drive at high speed.

This measure also follows constant complaints about speeding. ‘Areas such as the main road of Cumbre del Sol are very problematic because vehicles are speeding in residential areas. We have listened to the requests of the residents and this action responds to both the concerns of the residents and the Local Police, who have long been aware of the danger of speeding in various parts of the municipality,‘ said the Councillor of Citizens’ Security, María José Ivars.

The speed control devices have been purchased thanks to a subsidy of 62,377.19 euros from the Diputación de Alicante. They have been set up this week, but there will be a period of adaptation so that the public can get used to them and learn to drive at the appropriate speed for each road.
