THE MAYOR OF THE COUNCIL OF EL POBLE NOU DE BENITATXELL
ANNOUNCES:
The population is hereby informed that Veolia, the concessionaire company responsible for the management of the drinking water service in the municipalities of Teulada Moraira and El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, has officially transferred to the Water Consortium the detection of anomalous levels of turbidity in the water.
As a result of the heavy rainfall on Sunday and Monday, there have been alterations in the aquifer that supplies both populations. Although these rains have had a very positive effect by generating a considerable increase in water reserves, at the same time they have caused a significant movement of the underground masses.
This phenomenon has caused turbidity levels that temporarily affect the quality of the water supplied to the population, which means that the disinfectant reagents authorised and used cannot guarantee their full effectiveness.
For all these reasons, and as a preventive measure, the consumption of water from the public network for drinking and cooking is not recommended until further notice, recommending its use exclusively for personal hygiene and household cleaning tasks.
Turbidity is one of the parameters regulated by Royal Decree 3/2023, which establishes the technical and sanitary criteria for the quality of water for human consumption. Although this phenomenon had already occurred in the past, it had never reached such an intensity, derived from the extraordinary rainfall of the last few days.
The situation will continue until the complete purification of the aquifer can be guaranteed. In the meantime, the public will continue to be informed of the evolution of the situation and of complementary measures, if they are considered appropriate.
We ask that a responsible use of water be carried out for the benefit of all.
This is hereby made public for general information and for all intents and purposes.
