‘Alive, free and fearless’, Benitatxell’s claim for 25N, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

  • The Councillorship of Equality, the Women’s Association of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, the European Union of Women Marina Alta and Clásicas y Modernas have prepared a programme for all publics.

 

On the occasion of November 25th, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Department of Equality, in charge of Isa Garrido, has prepared a programme of commemorative activities to be held from November 23rd to 30th. Associations and entities such as the Women’s Association of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, the European Union of Women Marina Alta (EUWMA) and Clásicas y Modernas are collaborating in it.

The events will begin on Saturday November 23rd, at 11am at the Library, with the storyteller ‘Cuentos y rimas panza pa’riba’ (Tales and rhymes belly up), by Alberto Celdrán. But Monday 25th, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, will be the central day of the week. In the morning, the students of CEIP Santa María Magdalena will read the manifesto against domestic abuse. In the afternoon, the Women’s Association has prepared a Cineforum in which the film ‘Under Therapy’ will be screened. Afterwards, there will be a discussion with Renée Aguilar. Later, the participants will go in procession to the Town Hall, from where the manifesto for the 25N will be read.

The programme will continue on Tuesday 26th with a self-defence workshop for women of all ages with Paddy Brennan by EUWMA followed by dance exercises with Pam Small. Coffee and sweets will be available before the workshop. On Wednesday 27th, market day, a participatory mural will be made in memory of the women victims of violence against women in 2024, in collaboration with the Associació de Dones (Women’s Association).

On Thursday 28th, a round table ‘Indicators and resources in a situation of gender violence’ is scheduled for the afternoon, with the participation of professionals from the Centre Dona Dénia, agents from the Local Police and professionals from the Primary Care Basic Zone.

On Friday 29th there will be two more events. In the morning, EUWMA has organised at the Jávea Golf Club the talk ‘How to act when facing violence against women? Regional and municipal resources’ with Pilar Vidal (Guardia Civil Calp) and Elena de Alkaia (Xàbia Local Police). And in the afternoon, Dr. Régulo Lorente, who has been the family doctor for three generations for more than 40 years at El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, will speak at the Social Centre about ‘Silenced Voices. Treating domestic abuse from the perspective of family medicine’.

On Saturday morning, November 30th, to round off the programme, the sixth meeting of ‘Breakfast between books and women’ will be held at the Library, a marathon reading of texts written by women with the objective of promoting equality in the world of writing. This year, Amparo Zacarés, author of the book ‘La violencia de género explicada a adolescentes’ and president of Clásicas y Modernas, an association with which the Council collaborates through an agreement, will host the event.
