- This is an original idea of Clásicas y Modernas which is being carried out at a national level in several cities.
Yesterday, Thursday, the association for gender equality in culture Clásicas y Modernas, with which the Council of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell collaborates through an agreement, held the first session of the meeting ‘Lo recordaba la más vieja del pueblo’ (’It was remembered by the eldest woman in town’), which is intended to retrieve the oral memory of the women of the municipality.
This is an original initiative of Clásicas y Modernas which is being carried out at national level in other cities such as Galicia, Huesca and Madrid within the framework of the promotion and recovery of reading and Spanish literature with the support of the Ministry of Culture.
Thursday’s session was the first of several planned at El Poble Nou de Benitatxell. Around twenty elderly women from the town took part, whose testimony and experiences will help to enrich the memory of the town from the point of view of women, historically invisible.
The session was led by Marina Gilabert, a member of Clásicas y Modernas and a poblera by birth, with the help of Pepita García, a poblera who is also a member of the association. Also present were the Councillor of Equality, Isa Garrido, and the Councillor of Culture, Jorge Pascual.
The idea is that all the material from these meetings will be compiled and recorded in writing, since, as Carme Miquel said, what is written lasts over time.
