- The goal is to provide the Council with the tools to protect and enhance the value of this group of assets and to be able to apply for subsidies.
This Wednesday, the Council of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell approved in the ordinary plenary session of March to initiate the process to declare two of the most important patrimonial elements of the municipality: the Abiar washing place and the various caves located along the Route of the Cliffs (Cova de les Morretes, Cova del ti Domingo l’Abiar, Cova de Pepet del Morret, Cova del ti Toni el Senyalat and Cova del Morro del Bou) as an Asset of Local Relevance.
The motion, proposed by the councillorship of Patrimony, in charge of Víctor Bisquert, has counted with the seven votes in favour of the government team of Més Benitatxell and the four abstentions of the opposition (REDcv Benitatxell and Partido Popular).
The proposal of the plenary session included, in the first instance, the approval of these two assets as Assets of Local Relevance, their inclusion in the corresponding provisional file of the Catalogue of Local Protected Assets and Spaces and the communication of the agreement to the Conselleria de Educación, Cultura, Universidades y Empleo (Regional Ministry of Education, Culture, Universities and Employment). The last step will be to apply to the Department of Culture and Cultural Patrimony for its inclusion in section 2 of the General Inventory of Valencian Cultural Patrimony (Assets of Local Relevance).
The objective of this proposal is to provide the Council with the legal tools to protect and enhance the value of this set of assets of great historical and ethnological relevance and value, as well as to be able to access and have more possibilities to obtain subsidies in the field of patrimony.
The councillor of the area, Víctor Bisquert, explained, precisely in this sense, that a subsidy has recently been requested to continue with the restoration works of the Abiar washing place. However, he also complained that, despite the fact that more than a year has passed, four of the last subsidies requested by the Patrimony Department have been forgotten and have not been resolved by the Conselleria.
‘I do not know if it is due to lack of funds or due to the effects of the DANA, but I take advantage of this space to claim the importance of the subsidies in terms of patrimony to be taken out and reach the municipalities, because they are much needed and it is vital that we protect our patrimony, both to vindicate our roots and for the tourist offer that cultural assets can attract’, Bisquert claimed.
The plenary session approved other notable points, such as the modification of the ordinance regulating the fee for the celebration of civil marriages; the approval of a new ordinance regulating the public price for the provision of services, workshops and cultural or leisure activities organised by the Council; the modification of orders and rates of the municipal public services company Poble Net, or the wage bill for 2024.
